Car Free Day – 22nd September
Thursday 22nd of September marks World Car Free Day. A day to help inspire people into leaving the car at home and use alternative methods of travel to highlight the huge impact that such a small change can make.
The closure of roads to host travel workshops, planned walking tours and online seminars are to be held to help further highlight the importance of using alternative modes of transport; with some authorities even offering discounted public transport tickets for their services.
Switching to modes of active and public travel has numerous benefits, including helping to reduce air pollution that contributes to major health and environmental complications, reducing congestion and helping people to save money in a time when fuel prices are soaring.
Recent studies have shown that approximately 71% of car journeys are under 5 miles, a distance suitable for everyday cycling and public transport use, so why not ditch the car and make the most of these alternative modes of transport on World Car Free Day.
