Cycling to school post lockdown
Children are returning to school this week, will the lockdown cycling boom encourage more children to cycle to school?
As the roads are getting busier due to lockdown restrictions being lifted and people returning to work, many new cyclists are keeping up their new found habit.
Given children are returning to school this week, the education secretary Gavin Williamson is encouraging children to cycle to school encouraging “…parents and students to plan for how they can travel to school on foot or by bike”.
Cycling UK have asked 175 parents from ‘pro-cycling’ families across the UK for their opinions on children cycling to school.
The survey revealed that pre-lockdown, 24% of parents said their children cycled to school at least once a week and 45% of parents now expect their child to cycle to school at least once a week, almost doubling on the pre-lockdown levels.
