NATIONAL WALKING MONTH
Put your best foot forward this National Walking Month and get happier and healthier for free!
Just a 20-minute walk is a proven method to improve mental health, reduce stress and anxiety, whilst transforming fitness levels and connecting you to the world around you.
A short walk before work will energise you for the day ahead and, according to neuroscientists, increase blood flow to the brain, preparing you for a more enjoyable, productive day. A stroll afterwards can help you to relax, switch off and can even help you to sleep better at night. With longer days and lighter nights, May is the perfect time to switch to walking.
Research shows that the majority of adults feel more connected to their community and less lonely when taking up regular walking- proving the benefits of walking wellbeing. Even a quick 10-minute walk is effective in increasing metal alertness, energy and positive mood. When you walk more, you are likely to feel happier and healthier as a result.
As well as being an important method to improve metal health and wellbeing, walking is an excellent way to keep fit and stay healthy. Regular walking is proven to reduce the risk of heart disease and can reduce the risk of stroke by 27%. Walking is a simple way to have a full body workout, increasing fitness, stamina and muscle strength with minimal effort and cost.
