Travel and working patterns change across West Yorkshire

It will probably come as no surprise that travel patterns have changed across the UK and West Yorkshire over the last few months.

Regular public transport users took part in survey led by West Yorkshire Combined Authority in June, the results included an almost 40% rise in ‘active travel’ consideration. The majority of those who cycled and walked more than before lockdown, said it was a positive experience – with 45% saying that quieter or safer roads were positive aspects of active travel.

Respondents had mainly been travelling for leisure, however it was also expressed that people would be willing to walk up to half an hour or cycle for 30 – 60 minutes, which is encouraging for active travel across the region. Additionally, 11% in the most disadvantaged areas had thought about buying a bike and 8% in the least disadvantaged neighbourhoods.
