The sale of new petrol and diesel cars to end by 2030
Sales of new petrol and diesel cars to end in the UK by 2030, five years earlier than previously planned.
The plans are part of a “green industrial revolution” to tackle climate change and create jobs in industries such as nuclear energy.
A 2-phased approach will be adopted:
- Step 1 will see the phase-out date for the sale of new petrol and diesel cars and vans brought forward to 2030.
- Step 2 will see all new cars and vans be fully zero emission at the tailpipe from 2035.
Sales of new hybrid vehicles will be allowed to continue until 2035.
Over £1.8 billion will be provided to support the uptake of zero emission vehicles for greener car journeys. New measures also announced include more charge points and innovation for new clean technologies. Now is the perfect time to start thinking electric and to look for your first electric car.
