Travelling at Christmas
Every year, Christmas is a busy time to travel, but with Covid restrictions being eased from 23 to 27 December, and social distancing being in place on public transport, it is more important than ever to plan your festive travel in advance!
Trains:
There will be no train services running on Christmas Day and a very limited number of services running on Boxing Day.
There will be significantly less tickets available due to reduced capacity on services to ensure social distancing can be maintained. The demand for the limited number of tickets will be further increased due to the relaxation of Covid restrictions between the 23 to 27 December, which essentially compacts Christmas travel into a 5-day window.
Ensure that you check online incase any works are scheduled on your route which could close the line.
It is more important than ever to plan ahead and pre-book your train tickets this Christmas!
Coaches:
Like trains, demand for coach tickets is expected to be high due to reduced services and reduced capacity on those services.
National Express for example, is running a reduced service which will focus on major cities, towns and airports.
There will also be some coach services operating on Christmas Day.
Roads:
There will be fewer roadworks than normal this year as the transport secretary has said 778 miles of roadworks have been cleared on motorways and A-roads to ease congestion. If there are any essential roadworks that need to continue the speed limits will be set at 60mph where possible.
If you are planning to travel by public transport, you should plan ahead and pre-book your tickets to ensure you can get a seat.
