Winterproof Your Ride

Staying warm and dry on your bike is easy with a little planning.

Most importantly look after yourself.  Remember to keep warm throughout winter by wearing thin layers of clothes, then you can take them off as you start to get warmer while you cycle!

Be seen. Don’t forget your lights, if you’re not sure if it’s dark enough, turn them on! Be bright and make sure you’re wearing reflective gear.

Always look after your bike. Give your bike a general rinse and wipe-down to remove dirt, especially salt and grit that you may have picked up. Pay particular damage to the chain, gears, brakes and wheel trims. When you’re finished, dry it off with an old towel. Disperse any excess water in moving parts with a spray of WD40 or similar, then add some bike oil to the chain and gear mechanism.

Keep motivated! Cycling is often faster than walking, cheaper than driving and healthier than getting the bus.

Make sure you leave a little extra time for your journeys this winter. The roads may be wet or icy, so caution should be taken.
