World Electric Vehicle Day – 09/09/2021
The 9th of September marked World EV Day, a celebration for the future of road transport and the benefits that electric vehicle usage will bring.
The past year has seen a huge push towards improving the infrastructure designed to support electric vehicle usage, including an extension to the £50 million grant for improving the accessibility and efficiency of charging points. This brings the total invested in the charging infrastructure scheme to over £1.3 billion.
Despite this substantial investment, there are still queries as to whether the current level of infrastructure is good enough to sustain a rise in demand for electric vehicles. However, a recent government report has outlined that there are currently over 500 new charging points being implemented every month; meaning that on average a driver is never further than 25 miles away from a rapid charging point.
Recently the government has invested in a new smartphone app called EV8 Switch; designed to raise awareness about the benefits of electric vehicles. This includes a tool that calculates potential savings that could be had by making the switch; and offers important information on charging points and route guidance. A link to this app can be found below along with the recent government report regarding Electric Vehicle FAQs.
